Deformation Monitoring

At First Point Surveys, we specialise in monitoring structural movement in buildings. Using precise equipment such as total stations, laser scanners, and precise levels, we can measure and track even the slightest shifts in a building’s structure over time. Regular monitoring allows us to detect early signs of subsidence, foundation shifts, or wall cracks that may indicate potential structural instability.Through our detailed surveys, we provide accurate data and reports that help engineers, architects, and property owners assess the severity of the movement. This information is crucial for developing effective mitigation strategies, ensuring the safety, longevity, and stability of the building, and preventing further damage.

At First Point Surveys, we use specialist techniques to monitor any  movement within a building or structure.

The process begins with an initial site visit to establish control and set up monitoring points, typically using retro targets. These targets are observed during future site visits, and any detected movement is reported, usually in a detailed spreadsheet.

The number of monitoring points and the frequency of visits are tailored to the specific requirements and nature of the site. Our observations are conducted using either a 1” accurate total station or a precise level, ensuring high-precision results and reliable data for assessing structural movement.
